Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to do to fly drones for money?

If you want to fly drones to make money (for commercial purposes) you will need your Part 107 Certificate from the FAA. To get this certificate, you will have to take an exam administered by the FAA. Once you pass the exam (our course prepares you to do just that!) you will receive your Part 107 certificate in the mail, and you will be able to fly your drone and make money!

What is “Part 107”

Part 107 is a set of rules administered by the FAA that allows someone to fly their drone for commercial purposes.

I’m not flying my drone directly for payment, just flying in support of my business. Do I still need a remote pilot certificate?

Yes. Flying your drone in support of a business still falls under the commercial use umbrella.

What IS a Remote Pilot Certificate? Why do I need one? How do I get it? What do I do with it once I get it?

Your remote pilot certificate is the document that will allow you to fly your drone commercially, and if you attempt to use your drone for commercial purposes without one, you can face hefty fines. You get it once you successfully pass the Part 107 exam at an FAA testing center. Once you receive it in the mail, you will want to make sure to carry it with you when you are using your drone. See our guide for more information.

What topics are tested on the FAA Drone Exam? What topics does the course cover?

The FAA exam covers many topics, and our course makes sure to cover all the topics you may face on the exam so you are fully prepared. These topics include Rules and Regulations, Radio Communications, Airspace, Reading Sectional Charts, Effects Of Weather, Sources Of Weather Information, Loading And Performance, Airport Operations, Emergency Procedures, Maintenance And Inspection, Physiology, and Aeronautical Decision Making.

Where do I take the FAA exam? How do I book an appointment to take the exam? What is the FAA exam fee?

You will take the FAA exam at one of the FAA exams around the country. You can book the appointment at this link https://faa.psiexams.com/faa/login The exam fee is currently $175.

What is your refund policy? (Drone Launch Academy Guarantee)

If you complete all the modules in the course and score an 80% or higher on our final exam within 7 days of taking the Part 107 exam, but then fail the FAA Part 107 exam, you will be eligible for a refund. We will also cover the price of your next testing fee. That is how confident we are that you WILL pass.

What happens after I pass the exam?

Once you pass the exam, you will receive a temporary certificate from the FAA that you can use while you await your official Part 107 Certificate in the mail. Once you receive the official Certificate (it looks like a plastic ID card that fits in your wallet) you can discard the temporary certificate.

Does this course provide any continuing education credits that I can use for my professional certification?

Unfortunately, at this time, we do not provide continuing education credits for professional use.

I need to take the recurrent exam. Do you offer a different course for review and re-certification?

We do not have a separate course solely for recertification, but our Part 107 prep course does go over all of the material that you would need to be prepared for it because the recurrent exam only covers a limit portion of what was covered on the original test.

I’d like to certify myself and my team. Do you offer discounts for bulk orders?

Yes we do! The normal price of our Part 107 Exam Prep Course is $199 per person, but if you have several people that you would like to pay for on one invoice, we offer the following discounts:

– 4 to 9 people: $139/license

– 10 to 19 people: $129/license

– 20+ people: $119/license

The group would be paid for on one invoice, and then we would send you a promo code that is good for the number of licenses you paid for. That way your folks can create their own logins, then use the code to access the course for free (since it has already been paid for on the invoice).
