Drones have become incredibly popular over the past years, and the company at the forefront of it all is DJI. DJI has become synonymous with drones the same way Apple is synonymous with iPhones and iMacs. Many even refer to the DJI’s Phantom series of drones as the iPhones of drones, and for a good reason.

The Phantom series of drones has always been the pinnacle of amazing drones with top of the line and incredibly intuitive features while still being quite simple to use. So, let’s see if the Phantom 4 Pro holds up to the legacy of the Phantom series: spoiler alert, it’s better than any drone currently on the market.

The Phantom 4 Pro comes with five-direction obstacle avoidance, which is the first of its generation. The previous Phantom model (the Phantom 4) only featured forward facing sense and avoid, making this quite the noticeable upgrade. The sensors at the front, back, left, right, and below actively sense the environment and check if the drone is in danger of colliding with anything.

While fancy sensors are great and all, let’s get to the real reason why you are buying a drone, the camera. The camera of the Phantom 4 Pro is an absolute beast with a one-inch image sensor, which is four times larger than that of the previous model.

The camera is also capable of shooting 4K video at 60fps and still images of up to 20 megapixels. And if that wasn’t enough for you, the drone also comes with aperture control and a mechanical shutter. To put it simply, the DJI Phantom 4 Pro has a bigger and better camera than any other drone in the market.

In terms of design, the Phantom 4 Pro is similar to its predecessor. It comes in the same big and bulky design that almost all Phantom drones are now recognized for. What’s all the more impressive about the design of the Phantom 4 Pro is that it is still the same size with new and better features, and is also incredibly durable.

Flight Performance and Range

When it comes to good flight performance, few drones can come close to the Phantom 4 Pro. With flight speeds reaching 45mph (72kmph), which is all the more impressive with the drone’s ability to avoid obstacles thanks to its sensors.

As for range, DJI advertised that you can easily maneuver the drone from 4.3 miles away under optimal conditions; emphasis on “optimal”. The range of the drone eventually falls to the type of environment that you are in, and if you don’t happen to be in the right environment, it is likely that you won’t be able to reach the half-mile mark.

Finally, let’s talk about this drone’s battery. The Phantom 4 pro has quite the impressive battery, with an average flight time of 26 minutes. This is more than the DJI Mavic Pro and various other high-end drones currently available in the market. As for recharge time, the Phantom 4 Pro can go from an empty battery to a full 100% in less than 1.5 hours.

The Phantom 4 Pro raises the bar for high-end drones exponentially with the myriad of different features that separate it from other drones in the market. With so many pros, the only con is portability, if portability is a serious concern for you. The Phantom 4 Pro proves once again why the Phantom series of drones is the pioneer of drones in the current market.
