As part of our drone giveaway, we ran a survey to find out more about you, our readers. Thanks to the 3,800 of you that responded! The information will be useful to us to design courses that help meet your drone needs.
Here are some of the survey results. We hope it helps you think about your own business or profession!
Most Popular Drones
Our email list includes people that fly drones professionally and those who just fly for fun. Here are your favorite drones based on the survey data:
Unsurprisingly, DJI drones were by far the most popular drones among survey responders. DJI drones have advanced features at a good price and come largely ready to fly. And, in general, DJI continues to innovate with every new drone release, helping the company to stay ahead of its competition.
In fact, our survey numbers were right in line with DJI’s market share, at around 75%.
Even though many survey respondents flew DJI drones, we received a ton of write-ins that ranged from racing drones to ones that owners built themselves. Many people wrote they were still looking to buy their first drone, even though they were already hobbyists. For those looking to make their first purchase, we recently made video reviews of our three favorite drones under $100.
What Drones Do Successful Drone Businesses Use?
For those of you that are running your own drone business, we thought that it would be helpful for you to see what drones successful drone businesses are flying. We isolated the survey respondents that make a minimum of $10,000 a year flying their drones to see what drones they were using in their businesses. Some of the respondents below make over $100,000 a year.
Compared to 22% and 6% of all survey respondents, 33% and 13% of respondents with businesses that made over $10k a year flew DJI Mavic 2 Pro and DJI Phantom 4 drones, respectively.
DJI Mavic 2 Pros and DJI Phantom 4s are some of the best drones DJI has available. While we can’t say whether flying those drones makes a business more successful, it makes sense that if you were running a serious business, you’d probably fly a serious drone.
If you don’t have the budget for a Mavic 2 Pro or a Phantom 4 though, that’s ok! Plenty of the successful businesses were using lower priced drones, like the Mavic Air and Typhoon 4K. At the end of the day, how you run your business is probably more important than the drone you are using.
Conclusion
Thanks again to everyone who responded to our survey! If you haven’t already, check out our other article based on the survey that discusses what industries successful drone businesses tend to fly in.
